By the way, does anyone know what's going on with Dokic. I've not heard from her in a while. Is she injured? From the WTA website she is 6 and 6 this year so must have been around. In fact looking at her last match, the score was 7-6(1) 1-0 ret. so I guess she is injured. I guess the fact that her ranking is 378 doesn't help either.I've pretty much answered my own question there so ignore me if you like!

I had a look on www.jelena-dokic.com  :

June 24th 2005: Many were wondering if or why Jelena was not playing this year's Wimbledon tournament. Turns out that this year her ranking is not good enough to get into the draw. She was however offered a qualifying wild card but declined it. Impossible to say exactly why but she had said she needed to restart from the beginning which certainly makes sense. And it looks like it might happen as this weekend Jelena will be playing qualifying in a 75K challenger event in Fano, Italy

Her first round match was against Eva Birnerova, I'll see if I can find a result for that match

Did some research..

Looks like my Italian course can be handy to answer your question.
I don't think the tournament has a website, but
www.federtennis.it is a fairly good site for Italian challengers (although results are sometimes posted the day after). Dokic would not play before 19h this evening in Italy, so we'll have to wait a bit for the result..

Wow Melissa! Thanks for taking the time to research Dokic. I'm not sure what made me think of her today, she was looking like a major power in the ladies game a couple of years ago but I think she had some pretty significant issues in her family that were quite a distraction.

Hopefully she can crawl back to the top and mix it with the others.

Seems like Dokic is still not ok

Short translation : Jelena came back after 2 months inactivity and a dropped ranking to 400. She's still far away from her best form and lost in 2 sets 3-6 1-6 to Birnerova, the 8th seed.

Today matches:

Maria Sharapova (2) - Venus Williams (14)

Lindsay Davenport (1) - Amelie Mauresmo (3)

I think, that Sharapova is going to win the title this year, cause she is playing a wonderful tennis on grass... How do you think?

V Williams through 7-6 6-1 against defending champion sharapova. Davenport has just gone a break up at 4-3 in the final set against Mauresmo.

Venus Williams def. Maria Sharapova 7-6 6-1

Davenport leads Mauresmo 6-7 7-6 *4-3 But I'm very disappointed that BBC picks the match op at 5-5 in set one, and doesn't show live coverage

Seems that I was just 12 secs to late to post it here

I thought she might do it too. I was sceptical at the start of the tournament but she had played some excellent tennis. Watch this space for my final prediction....

Well I expected Williams to give Sharapova a run for her money but did not expect straight sets, or 6-1 in the second!

I only saw the last couple of games so I don't really know what happened but for sure Venus seemed to have raised her game.

I still like Davenport for the other one

Yesterday Williams beat Sharapova ... I think that Venus is going to beat Davenport in the final match

Today:

Roger Federer (1) VS Lleyton Hewitt (3)

                        and

Thomas Johanson (12) VS Andy Roddick (2)

Last year Federer beat Hewitt 6-0 7-6 6-0 in the final match - US Open, so Hewitt is a easy opponent for Federer

I wouldn't go that far! It's true that the head to head is 9-7 Federer with the Swiss winning the last 7 encounters but Hewitt is dangerous. Having said that I still think Federer will win but Hewitt could take a set.

I'm fairly sure that Federer will raise his game again and find himself in the Final going for the 3 in a row to join Sampras and Borg.

Didn't see much of the action today, only a couple of games of Federer - Hewitt in an Irish pub in Brussels. Roger won in straight sets 6-3 6-4 7-6(4).

I guess it started raining afterwards, Roddick - Johansson is 6-5 and will be continued tomorrow at noon.

Clijsters & Rochus lost to Pierce and Bhupati in the mixed doubles

Andy Roddick and Thomas Johansson will resume their match at 12pm today. The ladies final will follow the match at no earlier than 2pm.

I have my money on Davenport although the bookies favourite is Williams. What does everyone else thing?
