RE: Australian Open 2005

Indeed, Mauresmo didn't seem to put up much of a fight (if the scoreboard tells a story). I like her for the title now too...she has such belief in herself and that is missing from most of the women's draw in my opinion.

Federer did well to beat Agassi too....did anyone see the action? I had to make do with watching the scoreboard.

P.S. Welcome to the forum daniel!

Go Sharapova! Go Federer!

Semi Finals look as follows:

Federer vs Safin
Nalbandian/Hewitt vs Davydenko/Roddick

Davenport/Molik vs Dechy/Schnyder
Sharapova vs S Williams

My predictions:

Federer will beat Roddick in the finals (if not Roddick then Hewitt)
Davenport will beat Sharapova in the final (I want Sharapova but I think Davenport will prove too strong)

What does everyone else predict?

WOW...Hewitt vs. Nalbandian...10-8 in the fifth! I bet that was an exciting one to watch. It's not quite the same sitting at work watching the Java scoreboard.

The Semi-final lineup looks like this:

Federer (1) vs Safin (4)
Hewitt (2) vs Roddick (3)

Davenport (1) vs Dechy (19)
Sharapova (4) vs S Williams (7)

The top 4 seeds are in the mens semis!

I watched it yesterday, I had a day off because I had an Italian exam yesterday evening! It was indeed a fun match!
Today I had to watch the scoreboard for Marat vs. Roger I'm sad I missed the action , I hope they give some highlights on tv tonight.

Not sure who to pick for Hewitt vs. Roddick tomorrow

Sheesh, yeah.

Marat Safin def. Roger Federer 5-7 6-4 5-7 7-6(6) 9-7

Definately worth a check on the highlights! Amazing. I never expected Federer to be knocked out!

I pick Serena and Safin, but it's really difficult, Davenport & Hewitt is also possible

I'd have to pick Hewitt at home....however....Safin did beat the MIGHTY Federer!

The head to head is 5-5

Well I got it wrong.....again! Safin beat the Aussie 1-6 6-3 6-4 6-4. It was quite a good match with some nice rallies and great court coverage. There seemed to be a lot of respect between the two players and Hewitt was graceful in defeat.

So the next question is...can Serena or Safin get a 2005 Grand Slam, winning all 4 majors? I'd have to say no, because Federer is still fantastic and there is quite a bit of competition at the top with Hewitt, Roddick, Federer and Safin. It should be a good 2005 in the men's game!
