Austria's Stefan Koubek has warned Great Britain to expect the slowest clay possible in their Davis Cup clash. "Tim Henman may have reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros but we are not going to put that kind of clay on the court," said Koubek. "It's going to be a little slower, a little deeper and a lot tougher to play on for British players. I am very much looking forward to it because the British do not play their best tennis on clay."
It's been raining all morning in Austria so there has been no play at all yet. Looking at the TV pictures, the weather looks set to hang around so I'm not sure GB will see any action today!
Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski have lost their 8-0 Davis Cup Doubles record. I'm not too confident about Greg playing the final singles rubber with his hand blisters. It's 2-1 to Austria and here's hoping Henman levels at 2-2.
Well Henman did manage to level the tie at 2-2 but Koubek was just too strong for Rusedski in the final rubber. Yet another year down in Euro/Africa Zone Group One Lets hope we can get back into the world group and have a run at the trophy before Henman and Rusedski retire
Mmm, that's bad news ! Belgium is also staying in the Euro/Africa Zone group, we lost 3-2 in Croatia. Xavier Malisse doesn't want to play Davis Cup anymore, so I guess we'll stay in Zone One for a very long time
Welcome back Melissa. The draw for next year was made today and Great Britain will play Israel (probably on clay) and Belgium will play either Serbia & Montenegro or Zimbabwe. It's a shame that Malisse doesn't want to play anymore...I'd have thought playing for your country is a great privilige.
I always thought it was a shame when Pete Sampras didn't want to play Davis Cup. I guess they want to concentrate on the ATP race and earning the dollars.
