The usually media-savvy Tim Henman apparantly let the mask slip just a little when speaking to a local newspaper during the Swiss Indoors. And it seems the British number one is not impressed by the scribes who follow him around the world.
"Our media is possibly the worst in the world," he reportedly told Tages Anzeiger. "When you speak to tennis journalists, you notice how little they understand." He recounted a tale of how, during a lull between Davis Cup matches, he turned the tables and quizzed the tennis media.
"I started asking technical and tactical questions and it was embarrassing," said Henman. "I was embarrassed for them. They knew nothing, they knew nothing about the game.
"I've never been influenced by their opinions anyway but now we are talking tennis and they didn't know anything."
Fair enough! The British press are far more interested in each player as people rather than tennis players They have been under fire many a time during Wimbledon. I remember in particular Andre Agassi being a bit upset at the attention he got when he shaved his chest hair!
